Job Zone Review

Why pay for audition listings if you can collect a decent number online from different sources?

Read the site reviews and then use the top frame to search through them all more quickly.

Well Known:

Backstage, a weekly paper for performing arts (and a good source for temp. agency listings and headshot photographers) prints part of their performing arts jobs online. To get the rest you have to buy a subscrption but with all the other talent search sites listed at Blujaiarts.com, hopfully you won't have to!

Regions: West coast/East coast/Las Vegas/Chicago/florida

Job Type: Cast/Crew for all performing arts (film/tv/theater/dance/musicians/comedy. etc), Modeling, student work, etc.

Arts Hub - THE arts resource for Australia... unfortunately does not let you get the contact information for free - you need a subscription but they will let you look at job possiblities in music, art, writing, theatre and film/TV. These jobs range from administration to creative. If you get an annual subscription you also get access to arts articles which keep you in touch with the arts world. So if you never use it for job listings, you will receive your weekly fill of what is going on creatively - I love it.

Expanded List Source

GetGigs has gone under tremendous development since I first found it and bookmarked in 2000 in terms of site activity and numbers of listings. I'm impressed.

What it covers:

  • Musicians wanted according to instrument played, bands available, forming or wanted, teen musicians
  • Cruise ship auditions, internships, job lines, accomodation, models, photographers and producers wanted
  • Performing arts - dance, events, improv, theatre, theme park, etc.
  • New Media auditions - film, TV, auditions, extra work, filmmakers, portfolio listings, technical crew, film festivals
  • Screenwriters and writers
  • Photographers
  • Models
  • Producers
  • Sections in development features listings for: clowns, comedy, graphic & fashion designers, magicians, make-up artists, stunt performers, etc.

Playbill Online

I have not used them a lot since I've tended to seek more amongst Film/TV jobs - but you can also buy theater tickets and get theater reviews here. If you're a theater lover or goer, you already know what a "playbill" is. They even cover London theater!

Job listings are more specific in that regard to theater - musicians for accompanying stage, performers, backstage, internships as well as administrative staff. Impressive if you're a stage devotee.

At the bottom of the most recent listings by date you can search by: Academic, Administrative, Design, Intern, Other, Performer & Technical.

Performer's resource

OnStage's classifieds offer jobs by region. If you get work in these regions there are also accomodation classifieds. Not a huge lot of listings but a few - more developed than a couple years ago. Come to this resource toward the end of your search. Site offers other help for performers beyond mere job listings.

Regions: New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago

The Casting Network

Oh - you have to pay a membership fee to see anything at all on this site. You can send in your email for a chance to win a "$30" membership for 3 months. If you're going to spend any money, get Backstage instead. They are an excellent source. I'm listing this website in case you want to see if they have something you can't find elsewhere but because you have to pay, I've left it at the end of my reviews.
